The Certificate Decoder is a tool to decode your PEM encoded SSL certificate and verify that it contains the correct information.

What is a PEM encoded SSL certificate?

A PEM encoded certificate is a block of encoded text that contains all of the certificate information and public key.


What is contained in a Certificate?

  • Common Name : The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of your server.
  • Organization : The legal name of your organization. Do not abbreviate and include any suffixes, such as Inc., Corp., or LLC.
  • Organizational Unit : The division of your organization handling the certificate.
  • Locality : The city where your organization is located. This shouldn’t be abbreviated.
  • State : The state/region where your organization is located. This shouldn't be abbreviated.
  • Country : The two-letter code for the country where your organization is located.
  • Valid From : Effective start time.
  • Valid To : Effective end time.
  • Issuer: The entity that verified the information and signed the certificate.
  • Serial Number: Used to uniquely identify the certificate within a CA's systems. In particular this is used to track revocation information.
  • Email Address : An email address used to contact your organization.
